The way that CleanChoice computes the numbers for the billing is very confusing. It shouldn't be confusing to consumers. I don't know if I'm getting a good deal or not ‘cause I don't know what the totals are. I'm not happy. The way it was described, it was supposed to save me money compared with BGE. I'm assuming that I am not paying more now than I did when I was completely on BGE, but I don't know because I can't figure out the bill. For older people particularly, CleanChoice needs to have a simpler structure and not shift things after they've got people signed up. Also, initially, they said that I was going to get a bonus when I signed up. But I never received anything.

I decided to give CleanChoice a try when my apartment offered it. The marketing mail was very noticeable and I can't think of how I would have been introduced to them otherwise. However, there was a lot of contents that I had to go through. If that can be simplified a bit, that'll be great. Other than that, it was great. I followed the instruction from the marketing mail, then I went to the website to sign up and it was easy. The contract was easy to understand as well. CleanChoice is good for the environment, and that's one of the concerns I had, so it aligns with my vision. Hopefully, that gets implemented across different places. I don't notice too much of a difference, but the experience has been good.
Daniel, thank you for your review and for supporting clean energy!

CleanChoice had a rate that was reasonable. But they have a gimmicky thing where the rate goes through the roof if you don't lock down another promotion periodically, which is a pain. Next year, I have to call them back and get a new rate that's reasonable. I don't mind paying a little more than my regular rate from the utility, but it was 29 cents a kilowatt hour if I forget to call them back. That is a major flaw. They triple if you don't call them and play their little games and I don't have time for it. If a competitor comes along and has a regular rate that makes sense, I'll switch in an instant.

I’ve been with CleanChoice for about a year and I'm billed through the utility company. I pay a fixed price but I can renegotiate it when they have a lower price. When I was renewing, I said their automatic renewal price is more expensive than the ads I'm seeing for their energy online. So, they offered me a better rate than the automatic renewal rate was gonna be. I didn't like that they were doing the auto renewals at a higher rate but if you took the time to talk to them, it got better. The person who did that with me said the rates are this way now but they fluctuate. I’m locked in for the time but nit for the rate. So if they go down, I should call CleanChoice again. I should check in two months and if they've gone down, they can reset mine down.

The enrollment process was relatively quick. It started with a phone call and it took two phone calls to go through. My understanding is that the billing still goes through my current provider, since they're wholesale. It didn't actually change up my billing process. It was pretty easy. Also, the customer service is fine. But they were slightly not transparent in terms of the pricing. They continue putting a higher rate per kilowatt-hour and I would have to call them back and see if there are lower rates available.
Joseph, thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. You are correct that your invoice is mailed every month from Pepco, your local utility. Your bill will have 2 main sections listed on it. The Supply Charge portion is from CleanChoice Energy and the Distribution Charge portion is from Pepco. This allows you to receive one combined bill, and make one payment to the utility.
In terms of your pricing, you signed up with CleanChoice Energy on a 12 month fixed contract. This means your price per unit of energy (kWh) is fixed for 12 months. As each contract nears its end, we send out a renewal offer to you for review. This allows you to make the choice regarding your desire to renew for another 12 month period. Upon the start of any service, we also mail out terms and conditions outlining the parameters of the plan selected. Please note, we receive new rates every month and are always happy to review them with our customers at any time. We are able to provide quotes for both fixed and variable rates to meet the different needs of our customers.
Thank you for the time you supported clean energy with us. Please feel free to reach out if you should have any further questions or concerns. We may be reached at: 1-800-218-0798 Our hours of operation are: Mon-Fri 8AM-8PM EST Sat 9AM-5PM EST.

My bills were more expensive than when I did not have them on my account. If you want your prices to be higher, go ahead and work with them.

I don't see any vast difference. The one I had before was much better, but they went out of business. Also, it took a couple of times for them to hook up with ConEd and go that way. But other than that, I have no problems with them.

CleanChoice is transparent and it works. It's the lowest-priced energy available to us. Enrolling was satisfactory. When we went to renew, we found we were enrolled in the wrong program. But they resolved that issue really quickly. Going with them has been the best thing we've done.

The enrollment process was very simple. It was also very simple to renew, and it says any time you want, you can cancel it. Their website was very easy to navigate too.

The enrollment experience was real simple. I got something in the mail, I signed it, and I sent it back. There was no pressure and no long process. Hopefully, it's clean energy like they say.
